Evaluating the System: The Declaration of Independence Part II

So last week we started in on the Declaration of Independence. This week we'll jump straight into it, and find that the charges which the founding fathers brought against the British King George II, in many ways resemble charges which one might consider bringing up against our own King George.

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.

This would be akin to a President who chooses to pay more attention to laws which serve corporate interests over public interests.

Our hearts go out to those affected by Hurricane Katrina.

CBGBs: Still in Trouble

CBGBs: Still in Trouble

The Bowery Residents Committee (BRC) is still holding out on renewing CBGB's lease, despite the fact that the Manhattan City Court ruled in favor of the venue regarding the recent rent dispute.

Save CBGB's recently released a list of ways you can help, which includes:

  • Buying cool CBGBs memorabilia from their online auction
  • Contacting NYC Mayor Bloomberg
  • Going to one of their benefit concerts

The benefit concerts include great bands such as The Bouncing Souls, The Queers and J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr.

If you live in NYC, check out the full list of acts and see if any of them turn you on. Otherwise, you can write the mayor and let him know you want the BRC to back off.
